In order to provide general direction for CHRISTUS Health, the Board of Directors hereby adopts the following statements of overall mission for our facility:

Our Goals

Christus Southern New Mexico of Alamogordo, located in Otero County in south-central New Mexico, assumes certain responsibilities in the basic functions of the institution including service and teaching.

• We believe our primary responsibility is to perceive, initiate and provide a comprehensive nursing care program, based on established professional standards at the lowest possible cost to our patients.

• We believe we have the responsibility to serve as patient advocates and implement the Patient’s Bill of Rights.

• We believe implementation of the perioperative role is essential to effective nursing care for the surgical patient.

• We believe that each patient shall have an individualized plan of care developed with the appreciation of his or her ethnic, cultural and social uniqueness.

• We believe surgical intervention not only affects physiological activities, but may also generate stress, anxiety and/or discomfort which can disturb the individual, the family and significant others.

• We believe we have the responsibility to contribute to the continuity of patient care by collaborating with other healthcare disciplines in the performance of their functions.

• We believe it is our responsibility to support programs that contribute to excellence in the performance of patient care by present or future team members.

• We believe we have the responsibility to our staff to develop an inservice program directed toward utilization and appreciation of their potential service.

Our Objectives and Strategic Plan

To aid in the implementation of the Objectives and Strategic Plan, Christus Southern New Mexico will focus on three (3) aspects:

• Assurance of adequate patient assessment data available to all individuals participating in the perioperative process.

• Continued staff education on all departmental policies, procedures, forms documentation and surgical requirements.

• Assurance of optimum staff knowledge and performance for all monitoring equipment.
